Mehrnaz Tanbakoosaz

I was born in Tehran on September 4, 1983.
During my high school years, I studied and developed a high level of mathematical knowledge.  Although I was interested in mathematics, I developed a much stronger interest in arts.
It took me a few years to discover and acknowledge my talent through many art classes including puppet-making, calligraphy, theatre and sculpture. After a time, I settled into sculpture as my main preoccupation.
In these exploratory years, drawing and painting became essential to my personal expression.  I spent more and more time in front of the easel possessed by the joy of painting. I began an intense relationship with painting while continuing to pursue my adventures in sculpture.
In 2005, I received a BA in painting from the Culture and Art University in Tehran. Soon after, I immersed myself in the world of painting and took refuge in the solitude of my studio.
Later on, I followed a desire for studio research and enrolled in a master program in painting at the Art and Architecture University in Tehran from which I graduated in 2010.
Ever intent on expanding my horizons, I moved to Montreal where I now live and work.
